We are excited and saddened to announce that our very own Dr. Joey Banks has recently accepted the position as Chief Medical Officer for Planned Parenthood of Montana.  She has loved caring for the patients of BMC over the last 6 years.  We are incredibly thankful for the time we shared with her but know that her incredible talent and passion will be an invaluable asset in securing health care access on a statewide and national level.

“Six and a half years ago my family and I moved from Tanzania, Africa to Missoula to begin the next step in our lives.  We chose Missoula because we loved the community feeling that radiated from the city. I chose Blue Mountain Clinic for the same reason.  Blue Mountain Clinic’s commitment to the Missoula community is shown in its every day clinic work, its staff, and its patients.  I also chose Blue Mountain Clinic for its “one of kind” clinic structure that allowed me to fully integrate abortion care, teaching, and family medicine.  I am honored to have been part of my patients’ lives and health care.

Besides falling in love with Missoula my family and I have also fallen in love with Montana.  For this reason, I am excited to begin my next mission-based work as the Chief Medical Officer for Planned Parenthood of Montana.  The last two years in national politics has shown me that EVERY PERSON matters in our fight to preserve health care access without judgement, to ensure reproductive freedom, and to promote legislation that is in the best interest to all Montanans.  I have been fortunate in being able to help Missoula’s Blue Mountain Clinic in all the above, but I am ready to take it to the next level for Montana.”

As one door closes, another one always opens.  We are excited to welcome the newest member of the Blue Mountain Clinic family, Caitlin Blau DO! Caitlin is a soon-to-be graduate of the Family Medicine Residency of Western Montana here in Missoula.   She attended medical school at Touro University College of Osteopathic Medicine in the San Francisco Bay Area and did her undergraduate studies at Fairhaven College at Western Washington University in Bellingham, WA.

The opportunity to work at Blue Mountain Clinic was one of the reasons I chose to move to Montana for residency three years ago. Dr. Banks has been an integral part of my training and I am so honored to be stepping into her role at Blue Mountain. I am passionate about full-spectrum family medicine, particularly stigmatized care such as abortions, transgender medicine, substance use disorders, mental health, and chronic pain. I believe everyone deserves access to patient-centered care with transparent medical information and shared decision making.  I’m thrilled to be setting down roots in this beautiful state, and I can’t wait to start serving our local community.”

Dr. Banks will continue doing reproductive care one day a week here at Blue Mountain Clinic, but she will be handing over her family medicine practice to Caitlin Blau DO. Dr Blau will become part of our family and begin practicing medicine at Blue Mountain Clinic in the late summer of 2019

We would like everyone to know that Blue Mountain Clinic is very dear within Dr. Banks’ heart, and she within ours. While we will deeply miss Dr. Banks, we feel strongly that she is the best person for this position with Planned Parenthood of Montana, and if anyone can make a difference it is her.
